TRANSFORMING A CHURCH SERVICE THROUGH STREAMLINED BROADCAST-QUALITY STREAMING SOLUTIONS

From its humble beginnings in 1952 to its present-day status as Grace Baptist Church, this place of worship has been a beacon of faith, drawing a congregation of 1,000 faithful every week. Central to its operations is the AV Ministry, instrumental in supporting worship services through the years. 

THE CHALLENGE

Adapting to Challenges Posed by the Pandemic

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic posed unprecedented challenges for churches worldwide, including Grace Baptist Church.

During the circuit breaker, online services were difficult to produce. Recordings were done with makeshift setups from various homes and stitched in post-production before premiering on YouTube to Grace Baptist Church's members and the public for viewing each week. Unfortunately, the quality of the recordings missed the mark, and the level of engagement was missing.

Navigating Worship Production Constraints

As the country transitioned from the circuit breaker to Phase One, Grace Baptist Church ran into a different set of challenges on-site. Productions were allowed, but had to operate under restricted manpower. Availability of adequate equipment was limited, in addition to having to deal with different setups required for each of the English and Mandarin worship services.

With these restrictions in place, the church needed to pivot swiftly to ensure continuity in reaching its members and community, while maintaining the essence of worship. 

THE SOLUTION

Creating an Accommodating Church Service

Embracing technology as a solution, Grace Baptist Church understood the need to be better equipped with a permanent solution. 

With the benefit of online streaming and the hybrid nature of worship services in mind, Grace Baptist Church turned to Canon's remote PTZ camera solutions. By leveraging Canon's CR-N300 remote PTZ camera and RC-IP100 remote controller, the church saw improvements in attendance, positive feedback from the congregation (especially from members who live overseas), and a better worship experience for both on-site and online attendees.

The Implementation Process

The adoption of Canon's remote PTZ camera solutions ushered in a new era of efficiency and convenience for the AV Ministry. Gone were the days of cumbersome setups and tangled wiring. Instead, the church embraced a streamlined approach, powered by Canon's intuitive and user-friendly technology. 

The impact of Canon's solutions was immediate and profound. Attendance surged, and positive feedback from the congregation poured in, highlighting a marked improvement in engagement levels.

Moreover, Grace Baptist Church's ministry members, who are volunteers without professional experience in handling complex production equipment, found Canon's intuitive, user-friendly, and responsive controllers and cameras easy to use. With only short briefings prior to the service, the volunteers were empowered to operate the equipment with confidence. Canon's cameras and controllers offered great flexibility and control over the shots and framing with just one click of a button, significantly reducing the manpower and training required.

Additionally, the church is now prepared for the future with the compatibility of the remote PTZ camera to Networking Device Interface (NDI). This meant they can further improve their production and visual quality by upgrading and overhauling their Serial Digital Interface (SDI)-led backend system to NDI for higher bandwidth and integration, ensuring they remain at the forefront of technology in their services.
